In 1970, only the M22 for 454s changed to the fine spline. For 1971 and later, all Muncies (M20, M21, M22) were fine spline. The fine spline is more an identifier of the age of the tranny.

Only the 70 Chevelle 454 cars got the fine spline input and 32 spline output. Sep 04, 2014· A T10 shifter will work on a Muncie with a little bit of finageling. M20s have a 2.52 1st gear. M21s have a 2.20 1st gear. M22s have a 2.20 1st gear but a more aggressive tooth shape for more strength, than the M21. You can absolutely have an M22 with a 7/8th diameter countershaft, a 10 spline input and 27 spline output.
