Jan 29, 2015· The only possible chert source I know of in North Carolina is out of the Knox dolomite. I am not positive it outcrops in North Carolina though. It does outcrop in several areas of eastern Tennessee though and down into northern Georgia. It is a gray to jet black material and is usually highly fractured due to uplifting and such of the formation.
